Kim Kardashian appeared on the cover of Time magazine. The occasion was the success of her lingerie brand Skims, which made it into the top 100 most influential companies of 2023 according to the publication.
The businesswoman and mother of four founded Skims, a brand of corrective lingerie, in 2019. Since then, the brand has expanded into swimwear, homewear, dresses and T-shirts. Annual turnover last year was $500 million, 25% more than projected and 80% more than 2021.
Skims co-founder Jens Grede told Time that sales were up 86% year over year in April alone, and as of January 2022, the brand was valued at $3.2 billion, $2 billion more than Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics empire or the iconic Spanx underwear brand in the noughties.
Before the lingerie brand, Kim Kardashian had several businesses: two cosmetics lines, a jewelry collection, several perfumes, her own Kimojis emoji and a mobile game, but none of them lasted as long or were as successful as Skims.
“In the beginning, when I didn’t yet know where my career was going, because I was just giddy, I was doing licensing deals with a lot of different companies that were conflicting, like a cupcake brand and a weight loss pill at the same time,” Kardashian told Time.
