Kate Middleton attended the annual Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle wearing the look Princess Diana wore in 1988 at the Royal Ascot.
For the gala, Kate Middleton chose an Alessandra Rich polka dot dress, a Philip Treacy hat and earrings formerly owned by Princess Diana. The jewelry was presented to Kate’s mother-in-law as a wedding gift in 1981 by Collingwood jewelers.
The Princess of Wales was obviously inspired by Diana’s image and almost completely replicated it. Princess Diana wore a similar white polka-dot dress by the designer Victor Edelstein to the Royal Ascot 35 years ago. Kate chose Jennifer Chamandi shoes, also identical to those worn by her mother-in-law.
Kate arrived at Windsor Castle accompanied by her husband, Prince William, who is an Officer of the Order of the Garter, which requires him to wear a gown and matching hat with feathers. Other Knights of the Order, led by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, also arrived at the event in the same attire. Kate Middleton is not a member of the Knights of the Order and is not allowed to wear the mantle, so her image was different from most of those gathered at the ceremony.
